The effect of dielectric screening on linear and third order nonlinear absorption coefficient of a quantum well in presence of hydrogenic impurity is investigated. Density matrix approach was used to study the linear and third order nonlinear absorption coefficient. Energy eigenvalues and their corresponding eigenfunctions were enumerated numerically using finite element method. The results show that the presence of hydrogenic impurity causes the absorption spectrum move towards lower energies and increasing the impurity can reduce the critical intensity of incident photons in absorption spectrum of quantum well
Keywords: Linear absorbtion, nonlinear absorption coefficient, quantum wells, the dielectric constant
