In this paper، the phase information of a tapered single-mode optical fiber in the non-tapered and tapered parts is measured by a Hillbert phase microscope. In this microscope، the difference between the fiber core and the fiber cladding can be clearly seen and measured. The results of tapered single-mode optical fiber measurements show that in the process of fiber tapering، the core is lost and the whole fiber will have a constant refractive index equal to that of the cladding.
