Abstract: (848 Views)
In this paper, the near-field optical response of star-shaped gold nanoparticles in interaction with a laser pulse is simulated and it is shown that due to the localized surface plasmon resonances the near field intensity at the tip of the tentacles is significantly amplified. In addition, the results show that the absorption cross-section of nanostar is strongly dependent on the number, length of the tentacles and the nucleus size and it has several spectral peaks due to the resonant frequencies resulting from the combination of spherical, cylindrical and conical structure in star-shaped geometry. As a result, by engineering their structure depending on the type of application, it is possible to obtain the desired strong localized fields which are useful in many applications such as biological imaging, drug delivery, medical diagnostics and therapeutics and biochemical sensors.
